Productivity

Improving Productivity Through your Environment

Whether working in an office or working from home; your productivity can make the difference between clocking off at 5pm or needing to ‘pull an all-nighter’. We all know that the environment surrounding us can impact on our health, but did you know it can also help (or hinder) your productivity?

There have been several recent studies by US universities, which have assessed the impact of a building environment on the cognitive function of those working inside. Although the studies have had small sample sizes, it’s been shown that improved lighting, temperature control and ventilation from a ‘green’ office resulted in the study participants scoring an average of 101% higher in cognitive performance. This is in comparison to those working in a ‘regular’ office.

We see the key takeaways from these studies to be:

  • To improve productivity at your workplace, supporting healthy, clean air through proper ventilation and clean air conditioning systems is important.
  • Ensuring air conditioning temperatures are comfortable and efficient is helpful for productivity measures. A dirty air conditioner is less likely to effectively heat or cool an office as is needed.
  • The reduction of volatile organic compounds, such as the microbial contamination that can be found in and on dirty air conditioners, results in healthier workplaces. Less sick days also results in improved productivity.

Dr. Joseph Allen Assistant Professor of Exposure Assessment Science at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, Director of the Healthy Buildings Program at the Center for Health and the Global Environment at Harvard Chan School, Principal Investigator for the study, said “This study suggests that indoor environments can have a profound impact on the decision-making performance of workers, which is a primary indicator of worker productivity.”

At HydroKleen, we believe that clean, healthy air is best supported by a clean and sanitised air conditioner, and we know that we’re the best in the business. Contact our friendly team to book your office air conditioner clean and perhaps you’ll also notice improved productivity!
